"Le Voyage Dans La Lune" (A trip to the moon) is the new album from French downbeat pioneers Air.
The album came about when the band were asked to score the recently restored 1912 movie by the same name by legendary French director George Méliès. Heralded as not only the first ever sci-fi movie but also the first ever cinema blockbuster, the colour version of the film was long thought destroyed but was found again in the 1990s and underwent a painstaking 10 year process to restore the movie to its original 17 minute glory. The film was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011 and has since toured the World film festival circuit with interest in Méliès' work peaking in December which was not only the 150th anniversary of Méliès' birth but also saw the release of the new Scorsese film Hugo in which Ben Kingsley plays the part of the pioneering French Director.
